⇆ Our history

A young association for a young profession.

Professions earn trust the same way every time: practitioners organize, publish standards, and hold each other to them. The NRRA is that moment for reverse recruiting.

The profession arrived before the standard

Reverse recruiting emerged in the 2010s from an uncomfortable truth about modern hiring: the best roles — more than 80% at the VP level and above — are filled through referrals, direct approach, and retained search before they are ever posted. Applying through portals stopped working for senior careers, and a new kind of professional appeared to work the market from the candidate’s side of the table: strategy, materials, direct outreach to decision-makers, interview preparation, and offer negotiation, all in service of the job seeker.

By the mid-2020s the service had a name, a market, and thousands of practitioners — resume writers, coaches, and former recruiters expanding into full representation. What it did not have was a standard. There was no shared definition of the work, no code of ethics with consequences, no credential a client could verify, and no way to tell disciplined professionals from marketers.

The founding: 2026

The National Reverse Recruiters Association was founded in 2026 by veteran practitioners in the career-services industry to give the profession what every established profession has: a published competency model, an enforceable code of ethics, examinations and reviewed-work certification through the CRRA–NCRR–CMRR ladder, a public credential registry, and independent governance that keeps the standard from belonging to any single firm.

What comes next

The association’s program for its first decade is deliberately unglamorous: certify rigorously, enforce the code, publish research the industry can cite, and grow the public registry until “NRRA-certified” is the first thing a client checks. Young associations become institutions by keeping their standards boring and their conferrals meaningful. That is the plan.

The members who certify now are the founding class of 2026 — the names the profession’s history starts with.
